* Have you agonized over the decision to move your family to another country where they will be far from family, friends and cultural traditions?
* Are you sometimes surprised at your child's behavior and way of thinking?
* Have your children deviated from the cultural norms of your heritage and passport country?
* Are they having difficulty adjusting to the new city, country and/or school? Do they feel and act strangely when you go 'home' for a visit?
If so, come and hear about the outcomes of your lifestyle and career choice. IsCham Beijing, together with the Spanish Chamber, the Italian Chamber and the Australian Chamber invite you to come and share in an informative presentation about raising your children internationally AND inter-culturally.
Content:
The presentation will focus on the impact of life in a foreign country on the child's character and behavior. Dr. Zilber will offer strategies for mitigating some of the challenges. Dr. Zilber will also present a message to managers and CEOs of companies about the benefits that these cross cultural kids offer to their companies. Recruiting candidates with this international profile add a value to the organization... And the world.
The speaker:
Dr. Ettie Zilber, Head of School, Beijing BISS International School
Dr. Zilber has had a long career outside the USA, serving as an educator and educational leader in international schools in Israel, Guatemala, Spain, Singapore and, now, China. She is familiar with the issues and needs of students and cross-cultural families from a personal and professional lens, as she has raised three children cross-culturally and internationally and has educated thousands of others. Her doctoral research was dedicated to this topic and resulted in the publication of a book, "Third Culture Kids: The Children of International School Educators". Since her arrival in Beijing in August, 2009, she has enjoyed sharing her knowledge and experience with the expatriate and international school communities.
