Date: 11 Mar 2009 (Wednesday)
Time: 3.00 pm
Venue: Consulate-General of the Republic of Singapore,
89 Wanshan Road, Civic Center, 2nd floor

The China-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (CSFTA) signed between Singapore and China on 23 October 2008 in Beijing has entered into force on 1 January 2009. This is the first comprehensive bilateral FTA concluded by China with an Asian country covering areas ranging from trade in goods and services to investment and economic cooperation.

Upon entry-into-force on 1 January 2009, more than 85% of Singapore's exports to China became tariff-free whereas all Chinese exports to Singapore are granted tariff-free access.  By 1 January 2010, 95% of Singapore’s exports to China will be tariff-free. Singapore and China will also liberalize various services sectors such as business services, hospital services and education services.  The FTA also promotes greater movement of business persons between the two countries.

Mr. Michael Chang, Senior Manager, Domestic Exports & Re-Exports Group from International Enterprise Singapore will speak on "How Traders can Benefit from CSFTA" providing an overview of the FTA, Trade in Goods, Rules of Origin and Trade in Services.
