Members of Singapore Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China (SingCham China) attending the China-Singapore Free Trade Agreement Seminar organised by the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) on February 10 will discover that they are given preferential rates just as SBF members. And in April, SingCham members will be invited to participate in SBF-led trade and investment mission to Hefei and Nanjing.

A strategic partnership between SingCham China and Singapore Business Federation (SBF) has made these possible. This partnership aims to promote cooperation through joint initiatives for the benefits of the key stakeholders of both organisations.

To prepare members for China business, SingCham China and SBF will share information on business opportunities and market intelligence. Both organisations will also facilitate members' access to the latest China market information and insights, and obtain advice and assistance. Members of both organisations may visit the Secretariat of either party for their business expansion needs.

There will also be a regular exchange and dissemination of business and economic information, including trade and commerce information, membership and network, publication, updates and interpretations on new economic policies and regulations, etc.

Both organisations will refer to each other members and other business associates interested in trade and investment and other economic activities in China and Singapore, and to extend services to these members when necessary.

SingCham China and SBF will also jointly organise bilateral economic events such as trade missions, business visits, seminars, forum, briefing sessions or talks.  When participating in any of the chargeable business events organised by either party, members of both parties would be entitled to preferential rates.

The Menmorendum of Understanding for the strategic partnership was signed by Mr Teng Theng Dar, CEO SBF and Ms Dorothy Seet, Chairman SingCham China on January 28 and is in force immediately.

Background information

Singapore Business Federation (SBF)

The Singapore Business Federation (SBF) is the apex business chamber that champions the interests of the Singapore business community in trade, investment and industrial relations. It represents more than 15,000 companies as well as the local and foreign business chambers and key national and industry associations from business sectors that contribute significantly to the Singapore economy.

Nationally, SBF acts as the bridge between the government and the businesses in Singapore to create and enhance a conducive business environment.

Internationally, SBF represents the business community in bilateral, regional, multilateral fora for the purpose of promoting trade expansion and business networking.

The SBF was formed on 1 April 2002 via the SBF Act which was passed by Parliament requiring all Singapore-registered companies with a paid-up capital of S$0.5 million and above to become members of the SBF.

Its formation was to realise a more comprehensive organisation and representation of the Singapore business community's interests at home and abroad.

SBF's China Business Group (CBG)
CBG is for all corporations, companies and individuals interested in developing their business in China or Singapore.  It is a high level business to business and business for business networking platform to better service members in Singapore and China through value-added information exchanges and a comprehensive suite of services to both members in Singapore and China.

CBG organises business matching, project facilitation, business missions, seminars, forums, workshops, business leaders roundtable and other business events for members.

Singapore Chamber of Commerce & Industry in China (SingCham China)

The Singapore Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China (SingCham China) is a non-government, non-profit organisation representing Singapore’s business interests in China. SingCham China is officially registered with the Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs in 2001 and now has representations in Beijing, Fujian, Guangdong, Jiangsu and Jiangxi.

SingCham China aims to promote bilateral economic and commercial ties by educating, connecting and informing the members. To do these, we run events comprising talks and seminars on economic and business issues, business visits, golf tournaments, and business networking sessions. These events aim to help our members understand better the local business environment as well as appreciate policy shifts and economic trends, while at the same time provide opportunities to link up and network with potential business partners.

To further strengthen ties between the various Singapore communities in China, SingCham formed partnerships with the local alumni of Nanyang Technological University and National University of Singapore through joint events and programmes such as SingCham Beijing's Board Room Series. We also started collaboration with local Singaporean associations and clubs such as Shanghai Singapore Business Association-Singapore Club Shanghai to introduce local-based business events.

SingCham China now has approximately 1,000 members mainly in six Provinces/Municipalities , i.e. Beijing, Fujian, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Jiangxi and Shanghai. SingCham will extend its reach to other Provinces/Municipalities such as Chongqing, Sichuan and Tianjin.
