Business China and SingCham China sign Strategic Partnership MOU

Corporate members of the Singapore Chamber of Commerce & Industry in China (SingCham China) will soon have access to hundreds of Singaporean undergraduates heading for internship positions in China.

These students, when graduated in the near future, will be a ready pool of China business human resource and will grow to form the backbone of the next generation of Singaporean China business experts.

On the other hand, Singaporeans who are interested in China business will get to tap on the expertise and knowledge of SingCham members, mainly veteren businessmen and senior executives, who will share their personal encounter and experience at forums and seminars held in Singapore.

These are made possible with a strategic partnership between Business China and SingCham China.

For a start, Business China and SingCham China will jointly organise bilateral student exchange, immersion and internship programmes. This will groom the next generation of Singaporeans who are familiar with China, and vice versa.

Both organisations will exchange information in the fields of culture, education, socio-economic and business and jointly organise programmes aimed to promote Singaporeans' understanding of China's culture and the on-going changes in the social, economic and political conditions of China.

To encourage and facilitate business flow between Singapore and China, both organisations will jointly organise bilateral economic events such as business networking, seminars, talks, forums and business visits.

The Menmorendum of Understanding for the strategic partnership was signed by Mr Sam Tan Chin Siong, CEO of Business China and Mr Koh Chin Yee, Executive Director of SingCham China on January 28 and is in force immediately. Mr Khaw Boon Wan, Minister for Health and Advisor for Business China, Mr Chua Thian Poh, Chairman of Business China, and Ms Dorothy Seet, Chairman of SingCham China, witnessed the signing of the MOU.

Background information

Business China

China's phenomenal economic growth has greatly enhanced its global influence. In order to leverage on the boundless business opportunities arising from China's economic development, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew initiated the idea for setting up Business China in order to leverage on the boundless business opportunities arising from China's economic development.

Business China's mission is to nurture an inclusive bilingual and bi-cultural group of Singaporeans through extensive use of the Chinese language as the medium of communication, so as to sustain our multi-cultural heritage, and to develop a cultural and economic bridge linking the world and China.

Membership of Business China is by invitation only; 300 members will be recruited during the first stage of recruitment. The long-term target is to groom around 20,000 to 30,000 bilingual and bi-cultural Singaporeans with the ability to communicate effectively in the China market.

During its initial phase of establishment, Business China will recruit successful, capable, experienced and talented individuals as core members to form a firm foundation and create an effective business network. Business China is also keen on involving individuals with special skills and resources to support its organisational framework. Members of the public are welcome to participate in activities organised by Business China.

Centering on the opportunities generated by China's burgeoning economic development, Business China aims to establish a widespread acceptance and acceptance of the Chinese language and culture among young Singaporeans. This Chinese language proficiency would provide them with the competitive edge and facility, going forward, to engage effectively in business ventures in China
